Tattoo Aftercare

In case of unusual redness, soreness, or unusual discharge, please visit your physician

  • If you have a Tatu-derm/sani-derm bandage: a clear vapor-permeable film applied directly over the tattoo, you may leave your tattoo alone for the next three days.

  • You should visually inspect the tattoo site for unusual redness through the clear hydro colloidal film, and immediately remove it if there is an unusual amount of discomfort, itching or redness.

  • After three days, remove Tatu-derm by stretching it apart until the adhesion releases (grab diagonal corners and pull them apart from each other - that usually releases the adhesive gently).

  • Wash the area with liquid soap and warm water, pat dry with a paper towel, then apply an unscented, dye free lotion such as Aveeno, Lubriderm, or Nivea, ensuring that your hands are clean.

  • You may continue to wash the tattoo once or twice a day and apply lotion for the next week to two weeks.

  • Do not pick or scratch, do not touch your tattoo unless your hands are freshly washed.

  • If you need to remove the derm film early because it has started to peel, or leaked, or irritated your skin, proceed to the washing /patting dry and lotion step.

  • If you have a standard absorbent bandage remove upon your arrival home -preferably within six hours.

  • Dispose of the bandage safely then wash your hands.

  • Always wash your hands before touching your healing tattoo. Wash the tattoo with liquid soap and water, gently.

  • After the tattoo is completely clean, pat dry with a paper towel.

  • For the first two days, wash three to four times a day but do not rebandage.

  • After two days you may apply an unscented, dye-free lotion after patting dry.

  • A fresh supply of lotion in a pump or squeeze tube is best. If scabbing occurs, no picking or scratching!
